Driving defensively basically means driving in such a way that the driver is aware of his or her surroundings and defending oneself against the actions and errors of others. Since you cannot control the actions of other drivers on the road, diving defensively is the best thing you can do to prevent collisions and other disasters on the road.

- To prevent accidents during emergency situations by anticipating the hazards involved, knowing how to avoid them safely and using available emergency equipment
